Introducing Group Chat: Is Each Player Human or AI?

Introducing Group Chat Is Each Player Human or AI

Human or Not began as a one-on-one chat. You talk to a stranger, then guess whether it was a person or an AI. Group Chat changes the question. Instead of judging one partner, you judge two at the same time. The idea is similar to Among Us, except you are not hunting for one impostor. You are deciding whether every player is human or AI.

This post explains how Group Chat works, how it differs from Classic mode, and how to improve your odds of reading both players correctly. Play Group Chat whenever you are ready.

What Is Group Chat?

Group Chat is the three-player mode of Human or Not. You chat with two other players for three minutes. Either of them could be a real person or an AI. When time is up, you label each one as Human or AI. The game then reveals who was who, and you earn from your result. There is also a Group Chat leaderboard to climb.

What Is Group Chat?

Our tagline for the mode sums it up: Chat. Guess. Reveal.

How a Round Works

  1. Chat for three minutes. You are placed in a chat with two other players.
  2. Guess both players. Decide whether each one is Human or AI.
  3. Reveal and earn. The game shows the answers and rewards your result.

Group Chat vs. Classic

We offer three modes: Classic, Group Chat, and the Image Game, where you decide whether a single image is real or AI-generated. Here is how the two chat modes compare:

Group Chat vs. Classic

Two chat partners make the game harder in one way and easier in another. You have two guesses to get right, but you also have a second person to compare against the first.

Tips for Spotting the AI

  • Ask unconventional questions. Bots do well with generic conversation but can struggle with recent events or deeply personal experiences.
  • Send both players the same prompt. Comparing how each one answers the same message is the biggest advantage Group Chat gives you.
  • Do not treat typos as proof of a human. Bots can be built to imitate casual typing and slang.
  • Do not treat reply speed as proof either. Chatbots can be slowed down to mimic human typing.
  • Remember that real players can sound robotic. People who try too hard to prove they are human sometimes come across as stiff.
  • Use your time early. Three minutes goes quickly, so put your best questions up front.

Before You Play

All information on Human or Not is public. Chats can be shared online by other users or published on leaderboards, and chat data may be used to train AI models. Please do not share personal information in the chat.

Group Chat Leaderboard

You can play instantly without registering. An account is optional and lets you appear on the leaderboard, save your stats, keep your Human Coins, and access your chat history.

The Bots May Improve, and Group Chat May Change

AI chatbots keep getting better, so the bots in the game may become harder to spot over time. A tactic that works today may not work next month.

As that happens, there may also be changes to improve Group Chat. Timing, rules, or features could be adjusted as we learn how the mode plays and how the bots hold up.

We are open to feedback. If a round felt too easy, too hard, or just off, or if you have an idea for the mode, the best place to share it is our subreddit, r/humanornot.
